Indoor skydiving is an awesome, accessible sport! We have clients of all levels of physical abilities come for a flight. More often than not, it’s entirely possible to fly.
However, it’s always best to contact us [hyperlink] in advance so we can discuss your needs together and find a solution to get you into the tunnel! We’ll do everything within the realm of possibility to get you cruising on air.
-
Q: What is flying in Virtual Reality like?+-
Before experiencing VR flight, you’ll go through pre-flight training, then fly twice without VR to learn the basics of flying. Then, you’ll be ready to totally immerse yourself in a Virtual Reality flight.
- An instructor will help you gear up with a headset, and will guide you safely through your VR flight.
- Participants must be between 8 to 70 years old and weigh less than 117kg
- Participants under age 12 are limited to one VR flight per day.
- Please note that individuals with heart conditions, or who are prone to claustrophobia or motion sickness, should not fly with VR.
-
Q: What is the ‘high flight’?+-
The High Flight(or vertical take off) is a bit like being the passenger in a race car; some instructors can give you the experience of the sensation of falling like a professional.
The instructor will hold you and spiral you up and down at high speed if (and only if!) you want to.
iFLY would love to be able to offer the High Flight option in all sessions, but it depends on the level of training and experience of the instructors and we can’t guarantee it.
Considering that indoor freefall is an exciting sport, we encourage you to learn to fly by yourself rather than being assisted by your instructor. That’s why the High Flight remains an extra.
The instructors who can offer you the High Flight are part of the elite. Many rigorous indoor skydiving training hours are required before graduating * to be allowed to do this with a client. If your instructor has the skills and can improve your experience, he will offer you the High Flight. If you have any questions, contact us [hyperlink] – we’ll be more than happy to answer all your High Flight questions!
* The right to do High Flight are awarded by an independent body called the IBA (International Bodyflight Association).
-
Q: How do I access my photos and videos?+-
During your session, the wind tunnel driver will take pictures of you. Say cheese!
All of your photos and videos can then be viewed immediately after your session, and are available for purchase as a digital download through our terminals present on site.
Unfortunately, we cannot promise you the perfect picture considering all the fun movement involved in flying!
You can also share your photos on social media for free. We would love for you to tag us on Facebook or Instagram – iFLY Queenstown and @iflyqueenstown!
-
Q: Can children participate?+-
Any one aged 5 and up is able to hit the tunnel for an indoor skydiving adventure!
For pricing purposes, a child at iFLY Queenstown is considered to be aged between 5 and 16. And in terms of supervision, anyone under the age of 18 needs to be accompanied by an adult.
-
Q: What should I bring with me?+-
First, we ask all our customers to complete a declaration of risk statement before they arrive. This will be provided via email after booking online.
If you booked your flight with one of our partners and not at iFLY Queenstown, we ask you to bring with you the original voucher from the partner company.
Please arrive at iFLY wearing comfortable clothes (avoid collars and hoodies) and bring a pair of sneakers/trainers. If you don’t have shoes with laces, we’re happy to lend you some!
If you have long hair, bring a hair elastic (no plastic or metal clips) to tie your hair up with.
Be prepared to remove any jewellery and accessories before the flight. We have FREE lockers on site for you to use, but we recommend leaving any valuables at home to be super safe.
-
Q: When should I show up for my flight?+-
We encourage you to book online to make sure you can fly at your ideal time of day. The time of your required arrival at iFLY will be indicated in your booking confirmation email – 30 minutes before your flight time.
If you prefer to walk-in and wing it, allow the same 30 minutes in your planning to complete the necessary check-in forms and pre-flight instruction first.
Please avoid a late arrival; we’d be sorry to see you miss the awesome experience of indoor skydiving, and we aren’t able to process refunds for late arrivals.
-
Q: What should I wear?+-
We’ve got an easy three-step guide!:
- Comfortable clothes (jeans and a t-shirt is a perfect example!)
- Sports shoes with laces
- Bring an elastic band if you have long hair
-
Q: How long does each flight last?+-
Each singular flight in the tunnel last for a minute. 2 flights is the equivalent of 3 outdoor skydiving free falls from up to 12,000 feet!
It may sound like a short span of time, but once you’re in the tunnel, the exhilarating sensation of flying makes those 60 seconds an intense whirlwind of fun!
-
Q: What is ‘indoor skydiving’?+-
Learning to fly! But technically speaking, you’ll be carried in a column of air that replicates the sensation of a free fall from the sky – all within the super safety of our specially crafted wind tunnel. For the full breakdown of what iFLY is all about, take a look at our visual overview!
-
Q: How does a wind tunnel work?+-
The technology of the wind tunnel is simple, safe and efficient. It recirculates air into a flight chamber. To enter it, you step toward the door and lean forward to be gently lifted by this cushion of air. Congratulations – you’re officially flying!
Your instructor will help you find a stable free fall position before teaching some basic movements, like going up, down, forwards, backwards or even turning around! All of these manoeuvres are easy to learn.
